The 90-minute prep day: a routine that works

You do not need an afternoon to meal prep. Here is a 90-minute routine that sets up a week of easy meals.

A full afternoon of meal prep is not necessary. Ninety focused minutes — the right components, cooked in the right order — is enough to set up a week of easy meals.

Cook in the right order

Start with the longest-cooking items — grains and roasted vegetables in the oven — then the proteins, then the quick things like sauces and dressings. Everything finishes around the same time.

  • A batch of grains (rice, quinoa, oats)
  • A tray of roasted vegetables
  • A protein or two, cooked and portioned
  • A sauce or dressing to tie meals together

Portion and store

Portion the components into containers as they cool, label them, and the week is set. The prep-day checklist in the meal-prep pack walks you through the order.
